Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy allows movement of almost every muscle without causing stress on the joints. Due to the water resistance, muscles have to work notably harder which improves strength and stamina whilst working the cardiovascular system. The water is heated to 30°C, which helps with relaxation and assists blood flow to the muscles and joints, and prevents cramping.

Your pets treatment program might require the pool or underwater treadmill therapy or both of them.

We offer:

  • Fun swims for dogs to be able to swim in warm clean water in a safe environment.

  • Fitness swims for agility, flyball, show or working dogs to keep them fit to help prevent injuries.

  • Weight loss swims to assist with losing weight. Swimming in the pool is non-weight bearing, so it means no stress on their joints while exercising.

  • Medical/orthopaedic conditions swims:
    - Arthritic and stiff joints
    - Pre or post surgery
    - Veterinary diagnosed conditions

  • Socialisation/mental stimulation swims for dogs who lack confidence. Meeting new people and experiencing different things can help stimulate their brain and build confidence.

  • Puppy swims for introducing your puppy to the water at an early age in a safe friendly way.

Terms and Conditions

Hydrotherapy Pool

The pool is 10.5ft wide by 19.5ft in length and 3.5ft in depth, so even the biggest breeds are able to comfortably swim. Our pool is also equipped with anti-swim jets, which increases the resistance and turbulence, therefore providing a harder workout. Jets will only be applied at our hydrotherapists discretion.

All patients will be provided with a buoyancy aid during their initial assessment. Once deemed confident enough in the water to swim unaided, they will then be transferred into a harness. The hydrotherapist will be in the water with them at all times, assisting when needed, and watching for any abnormal movement.

Aquatic Treadmill

Our treadmill allows patients to walk in a reduced weight bearing environment. Using the treadmill encourages extension, flexion, and the placement of the pad. The hydrotherapist is able to monitor your pet's gait pattern, stride length and assist as needed. A hydrotherapist will be with your pet at all times. The depth of the warm water is customised every session in order to target specific muscles. We also adjust the treadmill speed during the session to help your pet achieve the correct gait pattern.

Shower and Dryer

We have a dedicated shower and drying area allowing your dog to be rinsed, shampooed and blow dried in a relaxing safe environment. We ask owners to bring a towel for drying your pet and, on colder days, a coat to keep them warm for the journey home.

Physiotherapy

Veterinary physiotherapy can enhance your pet's rehabilitation and recovery. Through palpation and gait analysis physiotherapy can help find the origin of pain and treat the problem with non-invasive techniques.

Physiotherapy may help if:

  • your pet has had recent surgery, injury or accident

  • developed problems going up or down the stairs

  • become stiff

  • been diagnosed with arthritis

  • you've noticed unusual behaviour changes

Treatments are unique to each patient and condition. The main types of treatments offered are massage, strengthening exercises, soft tissue and joint mobilisation and owner education and advise.

Laser Therapy

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy is a surgery-free, drug-free, non-invasive treatment to reduce pain and inflammation, and to quicken healing.

This form of treatment utilises laser light via a non-invasive handpiece to deeply penetrate the affected area without damaging tissue. The laser energy induces a biological response in the cells called 'photobiomodulation'. Your pet may feel a gentle and soothing warmth during the session.

Laser treatments take place during your pets physio session. Owners are welcome to be present at all times during the session.
